The essentials of a stay in London

London is a fascinating city! Between its ultra-modern districts, it’s very pop-rock atmosphere and it’s so British traditions, a stay in the English capital is a real change of scenery.

It is impossible to list all the incredible activities you can do during a stay in London, the list would be far too long - but we have chosen the essentials, absolutely not-to-be-missed under any circumstances, so that during your next visit to our English friends, you can do things that are a little more off the beaten track.

Buckingham Palace

Buckingham Palace, the official residence of the Queen of England, is mythical. It is here that royal celebrations and some major international events are organized.

The visit of the palace interior is a chance for you to enjoy the 9 magnificent official apartments as well as exhibitions on royal life, that are updated regularly.

If, however, you do not have the time or inclination to visit the palace, do make sure that you see the world-famous Changing of the Guard. It takes place every day at 11:30 am in front of the palace gates.

Good to know: Buckingham Palace can be visited from the end of July to the end of September only.

Westminster Abbey

It is one of the most famous places in London and one of the most visited. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is the burial site of the kings and queens of England and it is here that royal weddings take place. So chic! If you like English history, don’t hesitate to take the guided tour which will teach you a lot about royalty and its past.

The Tower of London

Again, this is one of the most visited monuments in the city. We advise you to book fast-passes if you do not want to queue for a little too long. Located on the banks of the Thames, this fortress contains the Crown jewels, some of which are still worn regularly by Queen Elizabeth II.

Madame Tussaud’s Museum

The equivalent of our Musée Grévin, the Madame Tussaud Museum is a must when in London, especially if you are travelling with your family. You will find dozens of wax statues, each more realistic than the next, featuring personalities from all over the world. Founded in 1835, it is an unusual visit that children love.

London Museums

It’s impossible to list them all, you will be spoilt for choice in London if you like culture. Between the British Museum and its antiquities from all over the world, the National Gallery and its works by the greatest masters, the Natural History Museum nestled in a magnificent building and containing an impressive collection of animal species... there are lots of possibilities, to suit all tastes.

If you do have some time left, we advise you to end your stay with a trip to the city's flea markets. There are several flea markets in the city and so there is something for everyone. The most famous market is still Camden Town, with a very rock atmosphere.

The official traveller's guide in London will give you all the necessary information for your stay, do not hesitate to consult it, it is available in several languages.
